What I Learned About 164 B30 Low Oil Pressure 140-160

Some of you know this, maybe some of you don't. Until tonight, I didn't, so here it is.

Tonight, I dropped the oil pan on my 1971 164. I discovered that the screen on the oil pick-up for the oil pump was well over 50% blocked with sludge. The pick-up screen sits so low in the pan, that a build-up had occurred between the pick-up screen and the oil pan bottom. This resulted in a seriously reduced oil flow. The pump and the pump seals looked good, but I am going to replace the seals since I am in there, anyway. I have disassembled and cleaned the oil pump and the oil pan. Now I am waiting for the seals and gaskets to arrive.

Since I had the cooling system drained for this job, I bought new hoses, as well as filters and miscellaneous. If all goes the way it looks like it might, I should have one fine running B30 by next week.

Jerry
