Speed-o-meter not working tranny busy 900 1992

Speed ometer does not work and tranny has to be shifted manully. Lately it wants to jump out of high gear and engine will free wheel. Changed the speed sensor in rear end with a used one but it does not work either. I have cleaned the connections on side of tranny and checked the throttle position sensor.
If anyone can help it would be great.
