new master cylinder--bench bleed required? 200 1983

Hi all,

I picked up a new ATE brake master cylinder for son's 83 turbo (the one now in the car slowly sinks towards the firewall while stopped; I checked the calipers and lines, no external leaks, fluid level in reservoir doesn't drop).

I changed the MC on another 83 240 about 5 years ago, and kind of remember the MC coming with a caution stating that it should be bench-bled. The new MC came with no instructions, and the Bentley manual doesn't mention bench bleeding the MC before installing it . . . .

I'm planning on using a pressure bleeder to completely bleed the system after I install the new MC, so my question is do I still need to do the bench bleed first? If so, can anybody provide some quick instructions on how to bench bleed the MC?

Thanks in advance!
