Well, my daughter bought that 89 she was looking at. Now that a really loud exhaust leak has been fixed, she has discovered a loud whine in fifth gear that the PO failed to mention. She says that whenever she puts it in fifth gear, going about 60 mph or so, the steady loud whine starts. In her words, it sounds like "a hair dryer gone wild." The transmission is an M47. Would this be the fifth gear problem I've heard about? If so, how difficult is the repair? Any tips, advice, help of any kind would be appreciated. Right now she's got that bad feeling in the pit of her stomach like she just got taken, and I'm saying let's check with some Brickboarders because maybe the fix isn't that bad. I figure the first thing she should do is change the tranny fluid and make sure it's full. Which type do the M47's take?
