Where is starter motor? Won't crank over. Help quick! 700 1990

Hi All,
It's been a few years since I used this board but it saved me then and hope it may now. I've got a 740 GLE with 170,000. Recently ( aweek ago) I had driven a few hours, stopped for gas and when I tried to start it I heard a quick 2-3 second purr (solenoid?) but not cranking over of the starter. Tried it a few more times in the next five minutes with same results. Waited 5 more minutes, tried it, and it started right up.

Tried it tonight after not having used the car for two days and the same thing. It had been fine for the two weeks in between. Battery is only a year old and contact are tight and clean. Thought of checking the starter conections but ran into two issues. One I have ramps but no proper jacks so can't get it up for a view. Two is that I know what it looks like, but don't know where it is located on this car. In the end I have two questions:

1) Is it likely on a 15 year old 740 gle with 170,000 (Don't know if starter has ever been replaced) that the cure is as simple as "loose/corroded" connections? The problem is obviously very intermitent. If it's anything beyond cleaning connections I would take it in
to a shop.

2) Where exactly is this thing located. I looked as well as I could under the carriage and down from the top with the hood open. If you can help with this part please give me a landmark. Know that I am only somewhat familar with engine parts but things like "near the under carriage fuel filter" or "to the left of the oil pan" would be very helpful.

Thanks so much for any advice!
