found out '83 and '89 don't take the same size battery 200 1989

I have an Autozone battery that is practically brand new that was taken from my beloved '83 245 before it was sent to the parts yard. The battery has been sitting for over a year now. It's about time for me to put in a new battery in my '89, and I thought this battery would fit. I went to Autozone and asked them if this battery I have will fit in my '89 juust to make sure. The guy said it doesn't. Grrrrr. I might get a used Interstate battery. Anyone have any advice on buying and using used/refurbished batteries?
