Over drive light is on on 93 volvo 940 Wagon with B230Ft engine

Hi Everybody,
As the title says overdrive light is on in the dash in my friends 93 volvo 940.When i say it is on it is very dim.. So i am wondering what might be the problem. We are planing to flush the tranny (Do i need to take the tranny oil pan out?)
