I'm leaving for Germany on Friday and won't be back until mid-December. I'm a part of a Foreign Study program my university does every other year--I'll be living with a German family in Bonn and taking classes at an international institute that does this kind of thing in the city.
So, this visit to Europe will be prime time for me to look for rare and unique Volvo parts and accessories. I imagine that Germany has junkyards of some sort, though I know nothing of them--can any one share experience with looking for parts in them?
Most importantly, what 240 parts can I get much cheaper there (and transported home) that aren't easily available here in the States? As of this point, I'm probably going to be limited to very small things--coin tray, accessory gauges, and other things I can throw into my suitcase--unless I end up working out some way to ship things home separately from the two checked bags I'll be bringing with me on the plane.
Finally, what Volvo things are there to do of note in Europe? I've already planned a trip to the Volvo museum in Gothenburg--I've gotten plane tickets and will visit the city from September 23rd to 25th, spending the intervening Saturday at the museum. (I'll take lots of pictures and bring them back!) I know that the DDR (East Germany) used the 264 TEs as their governmental transport (I didn't bid on the one on eBay last week--the seller wouldn't hold it until I got there!). Are there any locations anyone knows where I might could take a look at some?
If anyone else has any other automotive-related recommendations for while I'm over there (not necessarily Volvo, either), I'd be happy to hear them. I hope to see lots of the various car factories and museums that are open for display over there.
