Finally got that sucker out, pulled the fan, to my surprise the grocery bag had made it past the fan and was in the plenum before the heater core (or evap, whatever). About half torn up. Fan was OK. FAQ instructions for pulling fan don't match my car, ecu module can stay, but had to remove large pressed steel knee bolster and brackets, including one big aluminum one near the door. Need 12 mm OE and good male torx in the ranges 20-40. Ductwork snaps out. Bolster will not come out until glovebox liner is removed because it goes above it(more torx, GB door can stay), then fan is held in by 3 tiny 7mm bolts. Heavy wiring can be pushed aside. Delco product. There was no other junk in the fan area. I will screen the recirc air intake somehow, you bet. Thanks all for the advice.
Also found large speaker magnet from speaker over dash had come unglued and fell off, magnet is about 2" in diameter. Was sticking to the bolster top. Had not noticed a problem with speaker. Glued it back on with JB weld, a very small amount. Don't know if it will work. Had to remove pass dash diffuser shell to get to the speaker, 2 torx under dash and four more under diffuser grille.
Now to finish the rusty brakelines on my Ford. Rotted right thru. Not like Volvo's very good CuNi alloy anticorro lines. BTW, eastwoodco.com now has an ISO bubble flare kit (volvo type) now on sale for $20, pretty good quality. I had to get one. Seems to work well on 3/16"/4.75mm lines. They UPS'd it from PA to MD in one day. The Ford had these metric-type terminations, not 45 double flare I expected and was equipped for.
This after replacing a coilpack on my Audi A8 last week. Bad miss from nowhere. The cars are pooping out faster than I can fix them.
