Fuel pump saga continues ! 200

O.K. jumping hot side of #4 & 6 fuse resepticle causes the main fuel pump to whirrr or operate but car would not start while doing this. Checked for spark at plugs and have strong spark but that plug was wet with gas. Any suggestions on what I can do next? Anxious and hopeful. Ed P.S. Thanks for all the help so far!
