1989 740 Stalled Uphill WHY?

Hello all,

Your initial feeling please:

My 740 always drove great except on inclines always lacked power, overdrive seemed to work ok, until yesterday driving up a steady incline it said no and died, it would start fine and idle like normal but when gas was applied it was just buck a bit and die, it's in the shop now, what do you think I will hear?
