Hello,
I was asked to post a message regarding my experience with halogen backup bulbs.
I have a '93 965 and have been using the bulbs for several years, probably 4 but I don't have the receipt. I bought them originally from IPD, but now they have been mainstreamed at PepBoys for about $7 each.
They make a big difference and I have had no problems whatsoever with overheating. When you think about it, you really don't spend all that much time in reverse for this to be a problem. I would not wire the reverse lights to be on all the time, although I have considered wiring in a momentary switch to be able to flash them. I would not recommend an always-on switch unless it was connected to a timer circuit to prevent meltdown.
