16 Volts? In my battery the problem. 120-130 1967

You're lucky you didn't blow out your alternator. The battery should NEVER be disconnected when the engine is running. This causes the voltage to spike. When you turned on all the "evening rain" loads that gave the extra juice somewhere to go. If you had revved up the engine it could have blown every bulb in the car as well as the fan and wiper motors, just before the alternator went up in a puff of smoke.

If the battery starts the car reliably, it's not the problem.
