Quick question on Backup switch. 200

So how do I make my backup switch work? Ahh, you say just adjust the shifter switch as described in several posts, but wait this is a manual tranny.. I have backup lights if I hold the shifter all the way to the left but if I just put it in reverse then it does not work. Pulling it over an inch to the left and bingo I have backup lights..So how do I adjust the backup switch located in the transmission? 89 244 M47.....Max,,:<(
