There is a vacum switch (for the want of better termonolgy) that is located right beside the air pump. Alot of times that switch will wear out and cause problems-not a big deal-maybe 50 bucks now-the air pump is costly if bought new-bought the last one for my car used for 60 bucks and that was 180k miles ago.
Probally had a good one bought started throwing parts at the car before I knew better. You won't hurt the car going for awhile like it is-but your check engine light will stay on, and if you need an inspection sticker, you won't be able to get one until you make the light go off.
