16 Valve Engine 700 1990

I have 3 cars with the 4cyl red block with 8 valves.
Yesterday, I looked at a '90 740 with the 16 valve engine.
Is this as good as the standard red block? Last as long?
Will parts be different or more expensive.

Give me some comments on the 16 valve 4 cyl.
