Starting problem, what to check first 200 1985

Two things to check, I would start with the Fuel Pump relay located on the passengers side of the car near the large engine harness connector. Well know cause of no starts. and that is almost an exact description of my first fuel pump relay failure in Inga before I found the BB. You can add a jumper wire between fuses 4 and 8 in the fuse box and if she fires right up, you have a bad relay.

The 25 amp fuse, if not moved already is under the hood on the drivers side fender. Look for a white holder with a big 25 amp fuse. Should be between the big oval relay for the head lights and the coil. If still there go ahead and go down to an auto part store and get a sealed fuse holder with pigtails and a 25 amp fuse. Then splice the new one inbetween the wires, pop in the new 25 amp fuse and be done with it. If it has not failed already, it will in the near future.

If the factory one is not there and many are long gone, look coming off the +Pos terminal for a red wire going to a fuse holder and check the crimps and the condition of the fuse.

Regards,

PT
