The ECU is a 563, probably. A 937, 967 or 954 will work fine. There is a history of faulty 563s and the failure mode is not well reported, but involves troublesome running problems. It is just possible that you have a bad ECU but not a certainty. I would borrow one, swap it in and see if everything is fine. That is my diagnostic skill with ECUs in a nutshell. I just keep enough spares around that ruling out problems is the first thing I try.
