When gap is closed with ignition on and I open the point gap, I get no sparks. I will check bolt for grounding and condenser next, but I do get 12 volts with an open gap when I put my meter on each side of the gap. Wouldn't this produce a spark when opened and closed?

I just want to be sure before tearing out the old coil/ignition switch assembly.
