At a glance, it's generally easy .... 200 1988

Thank you, Ken. Sounds like it's definitely not a B230. To my untrained eye, it looks just like the engine in my old '81 242, except that one had a white distributor cap.

Since it's not a B230, is there a way to tell if it's a B21 or a B23, and then which variation - B23, B23E, B23F?

Without telling the whole story, I'll say that if I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have stepped foot on that lot. Luckily, in the past year and a half that I've had the car I haven't had any major problems, and it runs/drives better than the other 2 Volvos I owned before this one.
