It is never good to get moisture into electrical connections, but every few years it is reasonable to want to clean that greasy thing up, particularly if you are trying to get it to stop leaking oil and you need to see where the leaks are. I cleaned my brick engines every decade or so, spraying them down with aerosol degreaser solvent followed by a quarter-wash pressure spray engine cleaner and then soap and rinse.
