If you are still considering a transverse spring replacement check the two clamps which hold the spring to the lower rear suspension plate. Over the years the rubber can shrink and degrade allowing the spring to move upwards. A half-inch at the center translates into about two inches at the ends. The complete mounts are only about $50 on the Volvo OEM Parts website.
