Strange problem 200 1993

Yesterday I stopped to get some gas. Car has been running great up to that point. When I restarted the engine and put the tranny in Drive, engine stalled. I would restart and run in Park or Neutral with increased rpms. The moment I put tranny in Drive, it would stall. I sat there for few minutes idling. Just for grins I put the trany in Reverse, and to my surprise it was fine. I backed out to the edge of the lot. Waited few more minutes and put the tranny in 2 instead of D. All appeared well. Next, I went for D, and had no more issues. What could it be?
When I got home I checked the fuses, connections, and relays. Nothing jumped out at me. I'm still scratching my head...
