well guys as far as I can tell this came down to the electrical contacts on the Regina coil pack / amplifier interface. They are pretty much open to the atmosphere and were highly corroded. Some deoxit and a small brush and good to go. I may be imagining things but it also seems like the loping idle that I have been chasing for years is fixed too.
