I removed the boot and the Karlyn joints are fully directional. They are pressed into the control arms and waiting for me to restore the cross member before I put everything back together.
The original parts manual shows two different upper ball joints. The Karlyn version looks like P/N 686398, instead of P/N 686500, in the illustrations in the catalog. Thanks for everyone's input.
