Can't hurt to lube up the new units, but the problem is caused by the failure of the sheathing on the electrical cable. Water enters and follows the cable into the sensor assembly, which is a copper coil wound around a magnetized iron core. The iron rusts, expands, and locks the plastic housing into the bracket.
