I don't know about this bell you mention, sounds like something specific to Aussie models? I've pushed my 1985 745t to 120mph and never heard anything like that. 100kph seems like a loooow level to have a warning bell go on at... I mean, 60mph? I pass that every time i hit the highway.
I can say I think the 1985 models are some of teh best, the "green" wiring in the engine compartment aside (the early wiring was eco friendly, and it is known to corrode due to exposure and engine heat).
I would warn you that 81000km on a 1985 sounds EXTREMELY suspicious... my 745t served as a station car for awhile (small trips twice a day), and it has 206k MILES). I don't know what kind of consumer protection exists in Australia, but you should find out the history of this vehicle and have someone check the odometer for a rollback. Ask for the repair history and owner history, and ask the old owner for a story on the mileage. Unless this car was extensively stowed or garaged, or some little old lady used it for sunday trips to church, it sounds too god to be true.
Good luck and welcome to the ealry 700 club. ;)
