I have a 88 240 wagon with 241,000 miles on it and in the last few months it has been hesitating after startup every once in a while. I'll start it up and pull away and it will sound almost fine, just a little muffled, but it won't get up and go. It doesn't chug, just sits there and won't gain speed very well. If I shut it off and restart it, it runs fine. I think it seems to happen more often after sitting overnight or for a few hours. It also just plain hesitates and is doggy sometimes. I think this may be because it needs a new fuel filter/in line pump. The car is also reacts bad to gas, I have to run premium octane gas in it or it pings. Even with 89 octane it'll ping going up hills, 87 it pings like crazy. I think this might be because carbon build up in the combustion chambers, creating hots spots (the engine has a few miles on it, carbon build up wouldn't be suprizing). I've heard about removing carbon build up by misting (small amounts) of water into the intake while it's running. I know this can be very dangerous and right now I'm getting feedback on that idea. Just a few questions. Thanks.
