Today I will decide whether to spend about $70 (better than the $100 I was looking at thanks to the parts source leads) or $120 for a powerful primary in tank pump. I am leaning towards the powerful in tank pump as a feed pump. If my primary external pump had failed, I would probably just replace it with a more powerful one, but it seems to be OK. The Bosch pumps are very good and tough. Having a feed pump that is as powerful as a primary pump should lighten the load on the external Bosch pump. Obviously, if one or the other is dead and creates a restriction, the remaining pump will be stressed and make noise, but I should be able to hear this or see the problem on the fuel pressure gauge that I have in the car.
