Yipes!
I had a similar experience 10 years ago with my 'trainer' car- a '68 Datsun roadster. Same front end setup as the 122- and same problem you had! 3 of the 4 bolts were loose, and the 4th had a rounded head.
Then I pulled the engine- of 6 bolts, 3 were in place, and one actually still had a nut on it!
Yeah, it trained me to never trust that the PO knew what he or she was doing... and after that, the 122 was a dream, as the PO really DID know what she was doing- it even had an OEM Volvo muffler!
