I have to agree with the thing about driving it occasionaly. However, why not let the kid drive it, and maintain it? Might be a good way for him to begin to appreciate a car as something more than just a hunk of iron you jump into, point, and push on the gas. My kids started out that way, and changed significantly when we bought our first 1967 Triumph Spitfire. Now we have five, and they love working on and driving them, while the old man dings on his 1972 164E.
