It's called a
'Plug Chop' by the 2- stroke crowd-

you run the engine for a good long while at the range you're curious about (wide open or cruise, etc) then, clutch in, switch off, and coast to a stop (Safely!)
and pull the plugs and read 'em.

It really does sound like you're way rich at idle and on the progression jets, though...
