With the AMM unplugged, the system is in "Limp home" mode, and will run better than if the AMM is no good at all. That is, if the car won't run at all with the AMM plugged in you can limp home by unplugging it.

You may have another problem. Something is not telling the computer that there is too much fuel. Maybe it is the Oxygen Sensor. They do go bad. Check in the FAQ's 700/900 for more information. There is a way to test them.
