With respect to the temp gauge, you can solder terminal 1 to 3 on the compensating board to see if it works. It isn't a guaranteed fix.

I have had to replace temp gauges themselves before. In fact, I just swapped a cluster in a customer's car for exactly that reason--dead temp gauge. And I mean stone-cold dead. I tried a compensating board, then soldering it, then finally the new gauge.
