heater won't shut off and onlyblows cold

My guess is that the two are unrelated.

"Only cold" tells me that the heater valve, whick is vacuum operated, is not working.

This could be due to the fact that is just plain old and needs replacing, or because the vacuum line has come off or split.

"Won't shut off" sounds like the fan switch. Take it out and cleann it up, check connections, etc or go to the boneyard and pull one from a compariable car.
