Help me weigh my options: I need a new antenna

You didn't say if you toasted the motor. (You probably didn't) If the motor isn't broken, the mast is available as a stand alone part. Cheap, from any one of the typical Volvo aftermarket suppliers, or even the dealer. (like $11)

You can take out the motor unit, open up the whole gizmo and check it out. It's not too complicated and you really can't go wrong.

You probably don't want to go with some "ersatz" bogus aftermarket/generic stupid looking always flippin in the breeze aerial. That would ruin the authenticity of your VOLVO. Besides, you wouldn't get a good feeling of accomplishment from it.

The last one I had .... the plastic retractor was jammed into the motor, so it gave the impression the motor was kaput. A new mast, some time fiddlin with the motor and voila - fixed.

Good luck.
