This is for anyone wondering what's going onwith the ign switch/armored cable. In order to understand what's going on think about why the cable is armored. If at the key switch the + for the coil was wired into the + for eveything else it wouldn't matter that the cable was armored...to hotwire the car just bring a hot line to the + of the key switch. Volvo bypassed this easy hotwire by seperating the connects within the switch. As usual all + except for the starter and ign are off in the start mode. I don't however understand the diode that IPD uses unless it's that ballast resistor setup diode resitor thing that is also a largh. but that's another story. BTW by now most of the starters on an old 120 have been replaced and probably have an extra connect that is used to power the coil during cranking on the electronic ign volvo 240 (same starter). So if you want just use any live wire controlled by the ign switch to the new coil for the run mode and use the connect on the starter to the new coil for the crank mode. I bet you're still wondering ..oh well I tried..
