engine degreasing repercussions 700 1986

YOu could have a bad wiring harness. Any other signs of wire deterioration? There should be no bare wires showing. Degreasers are genreally harsh chemicals that will attack (already crumbling) insulation. Also just spraying all that water, especially the high pressure wash if you did that, will get water into connectors, and into the distributor cap, and dislodge loose connectors.
I would first check out the inside of the dist cap, see if there's ANY carbon or corrosion. Inspect the wiring to the bottom of the dist (hall sensor wire) and be careful, it's fragile. Then, you'll have to check whether the throttle plate is clean, and whether you've got any intake vacuum leaks.
Good luck!
