Distributor 700 1989

Sounds like your first problem is that you need a replacement mechanic. Distributors don't exactly "wear out". Hall effect sensors can fail, rotor and cap can wear to the point that sparks have a hard time sparkin', and seals can leak after a while. But the distributor itself just fills the hole in the back of the head, it's the moving replaceable moving parts that make the car run. If the best he can do is say the distributor is bad, you need a new mechanic.

OTOH, if he wants to renew all of the normal tuneup items, i.e., plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and filters, and it still isn't running well, he needs to start earning his pay. Is it a fuel problem or an electrical problem? I would suggest you ask for a better description of the problem, and if he can't give one, move on.
