Well, it usually runs about $2200 for a top-end engine rebuild after a broken timing belt incident.... so I'd figure a good running unbroken engine has to be worth at least half that.
The ZF transmission (are you sure?) is also a hard unit to find in good shape.
I thought all 16V cars had the Aisin-Warner AW72L but I guess I could be wrong.
If the shifter has "D321" on it, then it's a ZF22. If it's just "D21" like all the later ones, then it's an AW. Worth a few hundred either way, I guess.
I've heard BMW 735 owners will pay good money for a ZF, since the gearbox portion is the same as that trans.
