The only significant problems I've ever seen with it were oil starvation to cam bearings on some early heads. I don't know exactly what Volvo did to fix it, but after late 1982/early 1983 they seem to have improved it. Great engine, rugged, just about bulletproof.
Don't ever let it run out of oil or overheat, and it'll be fine long after we're gone.
