General but Large help needed 200 1991

The electrical system is fraught with diodes. What happens to them in reverse polarity I do not know, but it is likely not good.

Heavy diodes in the alternator. That may have been the source of the brown smoke. Was there a "burning insulation" smell?

How are the warning lights in the instrument cluster? All OK, some OK, which ones? None OK?

Shifter. I think your model has a shifter lock, designed to protect you from yourself. It is electrical, and may have been affected.

Good Luck,

Bob
