You do not say what the year of your car is. If it is a late 67 or newer you may want to consider swaping a rear disk brake axle out of a later 1800. I did this to my 68. It was mostly painless and it works very well. The 1800 uses the later lug nut pattern so you have the options of 1) redrilling the rear axles and rotors to the earlier bolt pattern (prefered) 2) redrelling the front rotors to later bolt pattern. 3)some have swaped the steering nuckles from an 1800 to use the complete 1800 brake system (a lot of work IMHO).

If you have the earlier car I beleive you can upgrade to Ford rear brakes by using a Ford 9" rearend for doner parts. This requires cutting off the old axle ends and grafting on the new ones to take the Ford backing plates. Then shortening and resplining the axles to fit your differential.
