I do not think a Bosch 554 has ever failed in any situation I have ever heard of. I can recall no posts ever on this board implicating a flaw in the 554. I would not say it is impossible but highly unlikely. If you want to try one I have a spare to swap in but I think it is a waste of time unless there is some loose wire in the harness connector or into the ECU even.
