Jeff,
Sounds like you're almost done with the job.
Mine's an 81 non-turbo. I routed a piece of 5/8 ID PVC hose from the breather box nipple upward and forward, more or less in the same direction the nipple points, but a little more forward. The hose stays under the manifold, arches forward, and comes out to open space just in front of the manifold, but still below it to the passenger side of the support post. The 5/8 OD copper pipe about 2 inches long plugs into the hose at that very accessible spot, and the flame trap assembly plugs onto the copper pipe piece. Then the hose off the big end of the flame trap keeps looping, headed downward this time, and connects to the front of the piece that sits just below the bellows. (I think this is the piece you are calling the air flow meter. I didn't know what it was called.) The big air intake hose from the air cleaner connects to the driver's side of the same piece. So the big hose forms almost a great big circle actually. Then the little hose off the flame traps loops over the top of the manifold and plugs into the brass fitting.
Hope this helps.
