142 B20 E- - - fuel pump problems 140-160 1972

I have a 72 mod. 142 with the b20 e engine.
I have changed the fuelpump three times within the last couple of months, why doesn't the fuel pumps work longer?what is wrong? Is it possible to use a fuelpump from anoher type of car?(the originally pump seems to be vary expensive and hard to find....)
