Update... 200 1986

Of course the second damn bolt is stuck, so I can't easily pull the voltage regulator without pulling the whole alternator. And it's a phillips head, so every attempt wonderfully begins to strip the cross hatch.

Brand new battery in today. It hovers at 12.6 volts with no load, the charging system is pumping out 17.5 volts with nothing on, 16.5 +- .5 v with AC/blower/stereo/lights on. The old battery was showing the same numbers, though it began to boil faster.

I'm getting .002 amps at the battery when the car is running. What am I doing wrong in metering this?

How can I kill the alternator temporarily and run only on battery power in order to drive the car the 20 miles I need to drive it to get it to my Volvo mechanic buddy?
