That definitely sounds like a transmission mount. I've had to put one in every automatic Volvo I've owned. This mount causes clunks, engine shakes, driveshaft misalignment and noises, and can even cause the shifter to get out of alignment so the neutral switch doesn't work right, or the reverse lights don't come on.
