Don's right, the S-shape looks odd, but it's just trying to dump the exhaust as far out into the airsteam as possible. If the spare tire well were not there, it would likely just be an extended L-pipe.

The 242GT used the L-pipe Don mentioned, but I don't really know what the reasoning was - it doesn't improve performance... maybe just for looks?
