Not bypassing the hinge. My replacement ground wire runs through the hinge, alongside the harness. The original broken ground wire uses space -- and, since it does nothing AND I need the space, I removed it.

Attaching from bolt to bolt is fine, but you still must run the wire inside the hinge (unless you want a loop dangling down). I decided to find more convenient spots to attach, so I went from a chassis location under the headliner (above, actually) and a spot inside the tailgate near the wiper motor.
